SOLON TWP. — The Kent County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that occurred June 23 in Solon Township. The incident, which at time of publication, is believed to have been an accidental discharge causing injury.

Deputies were called to a Grand Rapids-area hospital after receiving a report of a gunshot wound sustained earlier that day. The incident took place in the 3400 block of 18 Mile Road. The shooting itself is believed to have happened earlier that afternoon.

According to authorities, the injured individual is in stable condition and is expected to recover.

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In response to an inquiry from The Bugle, the Kent County Sheriff’s Office issued a firearm safety reminder:

“We have seen cases this year where people accidentally discharged firearms and injured themselves. Firearms are never toys. Always treat every firearm as if it is loaded, keep it pointed in a safe direction, keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot, and never handle firearms while drinking or impaired. One careless moment can cause a lifelong injury or tragedy.”
