As we wind down the fall this November with gratefulness for all of our patrons, come visit us at the Nelson Township Branch of Kent District Library in Sand Lake. We will be closed for staff training on Tuesday, November 4, Election Day. Our Legendary Readers program is ongoing with a new creature: Bigfoot! In this program, participants in grades K-5 are asked to read, write or visit the library for 100 days throughout the school year, outside of the classroom. You can visit kdl.org/legendaryreaders for more information about the program. Young children and their caregivers are invited to join us on Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 AM for Storytime and Rhyme Time respectively. Enjoy stories, music and rhymes while building early literacy and social skills. Storytime ends for the season on November 11 and Rhyme Time ends on November 21. We will have a special Woodland Creatures Storytime on Tuesday, November 18 with forest friends and cozy activities. For families with children, we’re hosting a Magical Friends party on Saturday, November 8 at 10:00 AM to give us the chance to do roar like a dragon and make whimsical creations! Adults, pre-register to attend The Traveling Printing Press on Wednesday, November 12 at 6:30 PM on kdl.org/events . Experience this art technique on a vintage printing press! Our monthly book club is meeting on Tuesday, November 18 at 1:30 PM to discuss Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell. Patrons are invited to join us for Food Safety in the Home with a Kent County Department of Health expert on Wednesday, November 19 at 6:30 PM. Stop by to see us before the chill of winter sets in!

The air is getting colder, the pads are hitting harder, and the stakes have never been higher. Following a spectacular 8-1 regular season, the Cedar springs Red Hawks have officially punched their ticket to the MHSAA Division 3 football playoffs. Their first-round matchup is set, and it promises to be a monumental test as they travel to face the 7-2 East Grand Rapids Pioneers.

ALLENDALE - The Cedar Springs Red Hawks delivered an offensive masterclass and a stifling defensive performance on Friday night, dismantling the Allendale Falcons in a commanding 51-20 victory. The game was highlighted by a historic, record-breaking performance from senior running back Kaiden Dreyer, who cemented his place in school history.

CEDAR SPRINGS – If you want to see the heart of a community, you need only look at its volunteers.

RED HAWK STADIUM – On the eve of the city’s beloved Red Flannel Day, the Cedar Springs Red Hawks delivered a stunning performance in their annual Red Flannel Varsity Football Game, crushing the Sault Area Blue Devils 63-7 in front of an electrified home crowd. The victory showcased the Hawks’ relentless defense and explosive offense, leaving fans thrilled and setting the tone for tomorrow’s festivities.

With the air filled with the smell of elephant ears and cotton candy, seas of red flannels and red shirts alike poured into downtown Cedar Springs for the 86th annual Red Flannel Festival. Hot weather and even hotter pavement became home to thousands of visitors from near and far, as the streets were filled with excitement, tradition, and community spirit. This year’s festival proved to be yet another resounding success, offering something for everyone, from carnival rides to the grand parade.

Falling leaves and temperatures are a great reason to come visit the Nelson Township Branch of Kent District Library in Sand Lake this month!

CEDAR SPRINGS – City officials are inviting proposals to redevelop the longtime City Hall property at 66 S. Main Street, marking a significant opportunity in the heart of downtown. The Central Business District site includes two structures: the former municipal office building and an adjacent cold storage warehouse, which may be purchased together or separately. The city will retain the public parking lot adjacent to the buildings.

Cedar Springs – A two-vehicle accident on 17 Mile Road near Woodlawn Hills Drive disrupted traffic and left two individuals with serious injuries on Wednesday, October 1st. The incident occurred at approximately 4:06 p.m. when a small truck heading westbound stopped in the roadway to make a left-hand turn. A second vehicle traveling behind it collided with the truck from behind.
